Amsterdam: A Brief Life of the City, was published in 1999 and has since become a classic. In it, Geert Mak recounts the history of Amsterdam in his original and accessible style. He has a unique ability to make historical events tangible. Based on Geert Mak’s text, Daniel Schipper has compiled a guidebook containing eleven walks and one cycle tour, enabling us literally to ‘follow in history’s footsteps’, from 1300 right up to the present day. Each point of interest is accompanied by suitable fragments from Amsterdam: A Brief Life of the City.
The guidebook is richly illustrated with up-to-date maps, historical illustrations and photographs.
